COVID-19 Information

** HEALTH ALERT ** - The Klukwan community has done well to mitigate exposure to the novel coronavirus. Given its success, the Chilkat Indian Village Council the declaration of emergency set on March 26, 2020, is still in effect. The continued best practices for preventing the spread of coronavirus is limiting exposure between persons and receiving a full dosage of an FDA approved vaccine.  Given the latest CDC recommendations, the Chilkat Indian Village Tribal Council recommends that:

  • All fully vaccinated residents and visitors with no symptoms and have traveled outside of the Chilkat Valley to social distance until a negative test result has been receive; and
  • All residents or visitors who have not been fully vaccinated to quarantine with no symptoms that have traveled outside of the Chilkat Valley to quarantine until a negative test result has been received.

TRIBAL BUSINESS ECONOMIC RELIEF PROGRAM - Eligible buisnesses must have been operating in Klukwan prior to March 1, 2020 and be able to demonstrate they have suffered economic hardhsips because of COVID-19. Economic relife funds must be fully expended by September 21, 2021 and all expenditures using these funds must be reported back to the Chilkat Indian Village. See Letter For Interested Parties. FOOD SOVEREIGNTY FUND NOW AVAILABLE! - Starting September 2, 2020, the Tribal Council has approved $500 for food sovereignty assistance for each househould. Other requests may be considered for food sovereignty items. Request an application from our office (pick-up, email, mail, or fax) and include a detailed list of planned activities and supplies needed with quotes or shipping costs included. RESOLUTION - A SHELTER IN PLACE REQUIREMENT FOR ALL RESIDENTS.
Klukwan has a high population of elders and immune commpromised residents. On March 26, 2020 the Chilkat Indian Village Council declares a local emergency in response to COVID-19. This requirement shall go into effect March 27, 2020 at 12:01AM until further notice. Council is limiting non-essential visitors' access to Tribal Residential and community facilities. PUBLIC HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT
For the Safety of our ELDERS and those with Chronic Medical Issues - we ask that people follow the guidelines listed in the flyer: people not residing in Klukwan are advised not to travel to Klukwan in the next 2 weeks. Those residents returning to Klukwan FROM OUTSIDE THE CHILKAT VALLEY, we ask that you self-quarantine for 14 days. Avoid Unneccessary travel outside the Chilkat Valley. Cancel all non-essential face-to-face meetings or gatherings. Practice Social Distancing at all times.
