Cultural Preservation

the cultural preservation department is devoted to protecting, revitalizing, and passing down the tribe’s ancestral knowledge, practices, and lifeways. through its work, the department ensures the survival and strength of haa ḵusteeyí — our way of life — by supporting language revitalization, traditional arts, oral history, and food sovereignty. it provides hands-on cultural learning opportunities through community workshops in carving, weaving, dance, and other traditional practices, led by local knowledge holders and artists. the department also manages key community resources such as the jilkaat kwaan heritage center, the village library, and the community garden — all of which serve as spaces for intergenerational exchange, education, and cultural expression. through these efforts, cultural preservation nurtures pride, identity, and continuity, ensuring that tribal traditions remain strong, visible, and rooted in civ traditional territories.
